Yep, I think he is awesome

I'm guilty, what can I say. I'm a proud mom of both my amazing children. But today I'm going to chat a bit about my son. I think he is pretty darn awesome. I'm so proud of the man he has become and the path he has choosen to take. My son is a Marine. Belongs to the USMC, VMA-513 - The Fighting Nightmares. He is currently at Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan. Working long hours for us, for the USA, defending and protecting our freedoms. I can't thank him and all of the service men and women enough for what they do each and every day. Let me tell you, there were times when I didn't think he was all that awesome. I admit it.  Sounds horrible doesn't it. Of course, I knew he was an amazing person full of heart and strength and I loved him very much. He was searching...and to some may have gotten a little off course.  For him, I believe he was just finding his way, his way.  We had a couple years during his high school days that were tough. I mean really tough. Graduation was in question, his safety was in question and his overall well being was at times in question because of the choices he was making and the friends he was loyal too. It was a rough time for all of us. I know it was for him too.  We never ever ever stopped loving him or supporting him. Even through all the emotions we were always there for him.  He was our son.  So what turned it around... he did. He made a decision that he needed to get away, he needed to break free from some of the bonds that was keeping him in a not so positive place.  He made a very adult decision at age 18, that he was going to join the military. Not just any branch, he was going to be a Marine. The best of the best with values of honor, courage and commitment. His words, "I want to be a Marine, because they are the best." It's been about 4 years now and he has grown so much, not just in size, but in personal growth. And just for the record, he is as handsome as ever.  (Remember, I'm a proud mom!) At age 22, he has an amazing story. I am just honored to be his mother, to love him unconditionaly and to always always be there for him. OOH RAH! I'm proud of you son.
